NGHS Science Department Letter to Parents Regarding Change in Grading for Semester 2 (2013/14 School Year)
After a lot of consideration and discussion, the science department at NGHS will be changing the grading of all science classes for semester 2 of the 2013/14 school year. We made the decision to split science grades into 80% summative and 20% formative. As a department, we recognize the importance of practice and feel strongly that students should be graded for this work. We will still be using standards referenced grading in that all lessons and assessments will utilize the Next Generation Science Standards. Students will continue to receive feedback on the standards they need further work in and what steps they need to take to master each standard. Grades will be reported using total points and the Adams 12 percentage scale of 100-89.5 = A, 89-79.5 B, 79-69.5 C, 69-59.5 D, and below 59 F. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your student’s science teacher.
